A great white shark bumped into a boat with a loud thud off the coast of South Africa.

In the video, a person can be seen tossing a tuna head in the water as bait to draw the shark closer to the boat.

The boat’s crew works for White Shark Africa, a cage diving and shark research company.

After several tosses, the shark ends up chasing the bait and rams into the boat with a loud thud.

“This shark was very playful and active and got a little too eager chasing the tuna head,” the filmer said.

“The shark was unharmed — though probably a bit shocked — as sharks have sensory organs called ampullae of Lorenzini that cover their snouts,” the filmer explained.

I was working with White Shark Africa, a cage diving and shark research company based in Mosselbaai, South Africa, for the summer as part of my undergraduate biology degree. We were just gearing up to begin working with Discovery Channel and Michael Phelps to film Phelps VS Shark for Shark Week 2017. This shark was very playful and active, and got a little too eager chasing the tuna head used for bait to bring the sharks closer to the boat, and bumps nose first into the boat!
