Terrapins nearly get into a crocodile's mouth as they rush for food!

The serrated hinged terrapin (Pelusios sinuatus) is a large freshwater turtle found in eastern Africa. It is common in Kruger Park and can be found in virtually every permanent waterbody. It moves overland during the wet season, and often ends up in temporary pools, like this one in a small tributary stream of the Olifants River. This pool also had an immature Nile Crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) in it, apparently living harmoniously with the terrapins. The terrapins and the crocodile rushed to the edge of the pool whenever a vehicle stopped, hoping for food. The terrapins competed for food scraps with the crocodile, climbing over it and getting in front of its jaws in their rush for food, but the crocodile never tried to bite any of them.
