Grumpy male elephant chases crocodile back into the water

Buy video

This video was recorded during a safari in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. Seen in the video is a large bull elephant that comes across a crocodile lying on the bank of the river. This elephant was not looking happy at all with the presence of this crocodile. Elephants still see crocodiles as a threat even though crocodiles will hardly ever attempt to hunt and kill an elephant. There has been cases of baby elephants taken by crocodiles in the past. This bull elephant immediately shows the crocodile what he thinks of him. The irritated bull elephant has his ears fanned out and gives a few intimidating steps towards the crocodile while shaking his head and trunk. The crocodile immediately responds to this threatening behaviour by getting up and making his way towards the water. The male elephant turned towards the crocodile one last time in an intimidating and aggressive manner. His tail was swinging, scary looking ears fanned out while pretending to charge the crocodile with what we call a mock charge. The message was clear and the crocodile slowly moved deeper into the water. Watching the interaction between our planet’s largest land mammal and the top reptile predator in the world was an unforgettable safari experience.
