The Common Bronzewing (Phaps chalcoptera) is probably Australia’s most widely distributed native pigeon, occurring over most of the continent. The Common Bronzewing has iridescent bronze-green feathers on its wings, and its underwings are copper and that colour is revealed when it takes off with a loud clattering of its wings. Common Bronzewings are mostly seen singly or in pairs feeding on seeds on the ground.
