A seal has avoided a 'slow and painful' death after it was found with a plastic ring stuck around its neck

The young grey seal had suffered from a deep wound after an air vent filter cut into his flesh which forced him to swim on his back to help ease pain.

He was spotted by passers by in Burnham Overy Staithe, off the Norfolk coast, who quickly alerted staff at Sea Life Hunstanton.

Veterinary surgeon, Christopher Tansley, has now removed the object from around the seal's neck - he is now in rehabilitation.
