This massive pig brought traffic to a stop when it ran away from a farm - jogging down a busy road in a bid for freedom.

The escaped porker had been awaiting slaughter when she broke free from her enclosure in Davao City, Philippines on May 5.

Motorists stopped to watch as the pig ran down the road before turning left into a junction. A man was then seen chasing after the runaway Vietnamese pot bellied pig.

Onlooker Juanito Acedillo said: ''It was afternoon and this pig decided to jog along the highway. He may be jogging because he is already too fat and trying to lose weight.''

The pig has a blue stamp mark on its back which is given to livestock being delivered to the butcher house.

The Department of Agriculture in the Philippines uses blue ink to stamp on livestock that passed inspection and is safe for consumption.

Juanito said the animal was captured and returned to where it had come from.
