An Eastern Great Egret stalking a fish, then striking
The Eastern Great Egret (Ardea alba modesta) is widespread throughout Asia and Oceania. This non-breeding adult was stalking small fish in the shallows of Peel Inlet, south of Perth in Western Australia on a completely still day with perfect reflections. The Egret was perfectly still, waiting to strike. It finally did – but just as I switched the camera off!
