The Eastern Great Egret (Ardea alba modesta) is widespread throughout Asia and Oceania. This non-breeding adult was stalking small fish in the shallows of Peel Inlet, south of Perth in Western Australia on a completely still day with perfect reflections. The Egret stood perfectly still then struck at a small goby (fish). It caught it, although it was tangled in seagrass which the bird expertly disposed of before swallowing its prey. It then fluffed its neck and strode off through the shallows.
