Beautiful Australian Pied Oystercatcher pair hunting in beached seagrass

The beautiful Australian Pied Oystercatcher (Haematopus longirostris) is one of the most admired Australian shorebirds with its neat black and white plumage, long red bill, red eye-ring and pink legs and feet. Australian Pied Oystercatchers forage for worms and other invertebrates mostly on sandy beaches and mudflats, but also probe for terrestrial earthworms and other prey on mown grass. They are wary birds, and usually do not allow a close approach. These Pied Oystercatchers were hunting amongst beached seagrass wrack in the shallows of Peel Inlet, south of Perth in Western Australia on a completely still day with perfect reflections, and were very confiding, allowing me to approach quite closely.
