As we pulled into the parking lot of our local bowling alley for an evening of fun we couldn't help but notice the odd (?) array of businesses occupying the strip across the lot: A Child Care Center, A Church, A Worship Center and the Tactical Training Center. All wonderful, I'm sure. All serving both their communities and their purpose. But I couldn't help but laugh at what 20-30 years ago would have never have been given a second glance, yet today seems horribly out of place and strange. In the midst of worship and child care lies a center for firearms tactical and defensive training, as well as hand to hand combat/defense and fitness. Or is it smart?? Both could be argued I suppose... I was in awe of the fact that this seemed to be a conflicting idea and had to laugh and joke just to try to make sense of it all, train the children to defend themselves at school, church, wherever. Start em young... I said bewildered. I certainly dont have the answers but I know this gave me a moment to pause because this never used to be a conversation. And I'm not an alarmist. Nor do I believe there is anything at all wrong with any of these signs or places I've just pointed out. Simply sharing some of my observations and struggle to understand the times we live in, how it changes us and the way we think. Both as individuals and as a society.
