Female Grey Kangaroo lying down with a cheeky Willie Wagtail on her back – close view
The Western Grey Kangaroo (Macropus fuliginosus) is the most widespread and abundant of all of the large kangaroo species in Australia. The genus name Macropus means ‘big foot’. Western Grey Kangaroos are most active from late afternoon until the early morning, and rest during the day in the shelter of shrubs and trees. They usually dig a hole for their hip to make themselves more comfortable while resting. Yanchep National Park Western Australia supports a large population of these beautiful marsupials. The female Grey Kangaroo is resting in her hip hole, while a cheeky bird, the Willie Wagtail hops on her looking for small insects to eat.
