A tuk tuk driver in India had a lucky escape when an electricity pole carrying a high-voltage wire fell on his vehicle.

Amazingly, the tuk tuk driver and his lone passenger survived the mishap without a scratch.

The incident occurred at Bhiwani, a city in the state of Haryana in India's north, on May 17 and was caught on a CCTV camera.

The police said an erratically driven truck collided with an electricity pole and brought it down.

The pole went down, yanking the high voltage wires that had connected it to a few other poles on the same road.

Police said three poles tumbled under the impact of the accident.

Video footage from a traffic CCTV camera shows one of the poles giving in and falling on the tuk tuk in a case of wrong place, wrong time.

The cement pole crashed down, smashing the rear end of the tuk tuk missing the driver and passenger by inches.

People in the vicinity rushed to their aid as both of them emerged out of the damaged vehicle unscathed.

Eyewitness Babu Chaudhury, 53, said: “Luckily, the high voltage wires were insulated or the accident would have claimed several lives.”

“In a similar accident three members of a family died when a high voltage wire fell on them in a nearby town two years ago,” he recalled.
