Diners were sent running from a restaurant in Thailand when the heavens opened - and rain came pouring through the CEILING.

Visitors were eating at the MK Restaurant in Chonburi, Thailand, on Wednesday evening when a rainy season monsoon downpour started at 7pm.

The shower was so strong that water began pouring through the roof before seeping through the light fittings - resembling an internal waterfall feature spraying over the tables.

Waitress Piguntong Pankang, 29, said: ''Before the accident there was heavy rain outside the shop. There was a sudden noise from the ceiling two times, and on the second time a lot of water cam pouring down.

''Customers were sitting down eating but they ran away quickly with the staff, too.''

Restaurant manager Seksan Soparat, 38, said: ''The cause of this is heavy rain. A technician will be coming to fix it and we'll be opening again soon.''
