A man who battered a D-Day veteran over the head with a claw hammer before going on a fast food spending spree with his stolen bank card has been convicted of attempted murder.

Jim Booth, 96, was attacked in his home by Joseph Isaacs, 40, who had offered to fix the bungalow roof but became aggressive when the pensioner declined.

Armed with a claw hammer, Isaacs shouted: “Money, money, money,” before he attacked the war veteran, who was involved in a secret operation in the D-Day landings.
