World-famous violinist Ray Chen surprised passengers on a flight that was forced to make an unscheduled fuel stop.

A TAP flight from Amsterdam to Lisbon was forced to make a landing for fuel in Porto on May 23.

After a few minutes on the ground, an announcement was made, but not from the steward – from violinist Ray Chen.

The filmer writes: "We heard his voice instead of the stewardesses announcing he was a violinist and he would play something for us to make the best of out a bad situation."

Passengers look on as the skilled 29-year-old plays a tune on his Stradivarius violin.

“At the time, I must confess that playing the violin was the last thing on my mind,” Chen said on Instagram. “But knowing personally how stressful delayed travel days are, I decided to whip out the Strad for a good old airplane performance.

We were on a flight to Lisbon, that got diverted to Porto to refuel. We couldn't land in Lisbon due to a militarily training in Lisbon airspace and we couldn't stay in the air for the entire hour and a half of the training. So our pilot decided to divert to Porto for us to refuel, before returning to Lisbon once the military has cleared the airspace.
Within 5-7 min of having landed we heard his (Ray) voice instead of the stewardesses announcing he was a violinist and he would play something for us to make the best of out a bad situation.
It was only after we landed in Lisbon that I googled who he was, and realized how lucky we were to have him entertain use during our emergency landing.
