The Southern Ground Hornbill (Bucorvus leadbeateri) is a threatened, turkey-sized, mainly terrestrial hornbill found in southern and parts of East Africa. Ground Hornbills are usually seen in small family groups and move like undertakers through the bush scanning the ground for prey. They spear prey with their formidable black beaks, and often toss it into the air before catching and swallowing it. This immature Southern Ground Hornbill, identified by it paler facial skin, was searching for prey, flipping over pieces of wood and picking up food from the ground. It tossed each prey item into the air before swallowing it.
