A couple expecting a newborn baby took a creative approach to announce their pregnancy to their families using a board game.

The video, shot on March 23 at a home in Pennsylvania, shows the future grandmother playing the game along with other relatives.

The dad-to-be, Sean Woods, writes: "My wife and I were looking for a fun way to tell our families, especially because this will be the first grandchild on either side.

"My family likes playing board games, and we're very competitive, so I decided to make the announcement during a game of HedBanz.

"I had to create a card that said 'Grandmother' and looked enough like the other cards so my brothers wouldn't realize anything was up.

"I scanned an existing card, found the right font, and did some Photoshop work to make sure the card I created looked just like the others,'' he continued.

When Sean's mom finally realises she's gonna be a grandmother, she gets extremely excited and can not contain her laughter.

"We all still love watching my mom's reaction. She's very quick, so the moment we asked, 'Are you?' you can see her expression change from confusion to unbridled joy,'' Sean concluded.

My wife and I are expecting our first child in November, and we were looking for a fun way to tell our families, especially because this will be the first grandchild on either side. I'm the oldest of eight, so it's a real challenge to get all of my siblings together at once. My wife was going to be away on a month-long work trip during easter, so my mom, Merry, hosted a pre-Easter dinner for us and my five brothers. My family likes playing board games, and we're very competitive, so I decided to make the announcement during a game of HedBanz. I had to create a card that said "Grandmother" and looked enough like the other cards so my brothers wouldn't realize anything was up. When my mom finally said, "grandmother," my brothers-- who didn't realize what was going on-- started yelling at me to give her the point and move on. When I got her to ask, "'Am I a grandmother?', one of my brothers quickly answered "No!" It wasn't until my wife and I started answering "In November. You will be in November," that everyone caught on. My wife and I were then quickly engulfed in congratulatory hugs and high-fives. Afterwards, we passed out personalized cookies with everyone's name and new title. My mom used to read the American Girl Doll books to my sisters when they were young, and in those stories, Samantha has a grandmother called, "Grandmary." I knew that my mom wanted to go by Grandmerry when she eventually had grandkids, so we had a cookie made up for her with "Grandmerry" written on it.
