These bemused dogs were transfixed when they went on their daily walk and a huge monitor lizard emerged from a swamp.

Piyakul Nernchamras took his three pet pooches out when they crowded around the pond in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Thailand.

He said: "We were passing that little pond and my dogs starting to sniff around the edge of the water. Then this humungous monitor lizard just appeared.

''Everyone seems to be in shocked at first for the size of the animal, especially my dogs. They were amazed that the lizard just appeared right next to them.

"Eventually, the lizard retreated back underwater. It is like a monster that lives in the swamp.''
