An unusual ice cream man whose modified cart with a karaoke system brings him in $100 a day - ten times his countrymen's daily wage.

Sompong Kunnatee, 45, was struggling to drum up business in rural Nakhon Ratchasima province, northeast Thailand.

But the entrepreneur kitted out his ice cream wagon with bamboo decorations and a microphone - which he uses to belt out Western hits to pull in customers.

He now earns on average 3,000THB (100USD) a day, more than ten times the basic wage of around 300THB a day in the region, where agriculture is the main source of income.

Sompong said: ''If I wasn't an ice cream man I think I'd be a singer, a pop star. Instead of a bell I sing songs to let people know I'm here. People sometimes like to join if they buy an ice cream.

''I've been doing this for ten years and even developed my own flavours of ice cream. The style of my truck improved business. I'm well known in the area now, a celebrity.
