Need a hand – or a paw? Don't worry, Buddy the dog will get that for you.

This video, filmed on June 9 in their Colorado home and shared to Twitter, shows Buddy reaching up and expertly opening the front door for his owner, Roger, and shutting it swiftly behind him.

Buddy, Roger explained, has come a long way from the scared rescue dog when they first met.

"He is completely loyal and very protective of our family," Roger told Newsflare. "I taught him to open doors by first teaching him to ring a bell to be let out. I then extended that training to include opening the door."

Buddy is Aussie rescue, he is 6 years old. He came from a horrible place that abused him and his litter mates so bad that when I first reached into the kennel to pet the puppies the yelped from fear. It has taken him a long time to get over this early abuse. He is completely loyal and very protective of our family. I taught him to open doors by first teaching him to ring a bell to be let out. I then extended that training to include opening the door.
