Local residents and forest officials rescued a baby elephant that had fallen into a 12ft deep well in Sri Lanka.

The footage shows a group of men using a rope as a harness to pull the one-year-old calf out of the well.

The calf had accidentally fallen into a well meant for irrigation purposes in Horowpathana and was spotted by local residents who informed the authorities.

The clip was captured on June 21.
