A professional British boxer has received a "substantial" pay-out after medics failed to spot a brain aneurysm which ruptured during a sparring session ahead of a title fight.

Prize fighter Darren McDermott, 39, was left battling for his life following a blow to the top of his head while he was training in August 2010.

He had been preparing for a British Super-Middleweight Championship bout when he was caught by a punch from former world light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly.
