Dramatic footage captures the moment a massive landslide wipes out two diggers battling to clear the road as onlookers scream in fright.

The workmen had been clearing debris from the mountain highway after heavy storms in Lai Chau, Vietnam, on June 26.

But the backhoe operators sensed impeding danger and leapt from the vehicles moments before tonnes of earth came crashing towards them.

Miraculously, no motorists or pedestrians were injured in the landslide and officials are now battling to rebuild the road destroyed by deadly storms which have been battering the northern part of the country in South East Asia. According to the latest statistics from the Central Standing Office of the Central Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control (MARD), up to 7:00 am on June 27, 19 people died while 11 people were missing in Lai Chau due to floods and 12 injured.
