Buy video

A view from the backyard of a Leilani Estates resident, looking at the ash, gas and large pieces of tephra being throw out of Fissure 8.

Tephra is a pumice like stone that floats on water and can be carried thousands of feed by the wind. They can be quite large and feel / sound like glass when they are crushed. Crushing them is easy to do and the ground is completely littered with these rocks. It is impossible not to step on them.
