Indonesia ferry tragedy footage shows passengers clinging to side of vessel

++CLIENTS PLEASE NOTE: THIS VIDEO HAS BEEN EDITED++ Dramatic footage captured by a rescue worker shows desperate passengers clinging to the side of a ferry after it sank yesterday killing 31 people.

The vessel ran into trouble near Sulawesi, Indonesia, while carrying 164 passengers and crew. The captain steered the ship onto a reef where it was wedged on its side, allowing 130 passengers to be rescued.

There were three people missing and 31 confirmed dead after the tragedy in the waters of Selayar island, South Sulawesi province,

The ferry was also carrying 48 vehicles when it began taking on water in bad weather.

Agus H. Purnomo, the director general of sea transportation, said in a statement: ''The captain ran it onto a reef so it wouldn’t sink and to make the evacuation of passengers easier.

''The captain and the owner of the ship were the last two people to come down from the passenger ship.''
