SHORT EDIT: When you're the only England supporter – in a local bar in Colombia

A 25-year-old English teacher from Somerset has described what it was like to watch the nail-biting World Cup clash with Colombia in a local bar in Cartagena in the country's north.

Video filmed during Tuesday night's Round of 16 match shows Douglas Davis, sat on a plastic seat he bought from a local shop and wearing an England shirt, watching the game surrounded by Colombians drinking beer and wearing their team's yellow jersey.

In the video, he can be barely heard singing "God Save the Queen" to the bemusement of locals and over the din of vuvuzelas.

The video also captures the moment of Colombia's last-gasp equaliser, which sent the bar into rapturous celebrations, Jordan Henderson's penalty miss - cue more goading of Davis by locals - and, more happily for the Englishman, the aftermath following Eric Dier's winning spot kick.

Davis, originally from Yeovil, told Newsflare: "The atmosphere was electric. I had watched games in typical tourist bars and decided that I would chance my luck in a raw Colombian bar with hundreds of locals.

"I didn't expect to be the only one in an England kit or the only person celebrating the goals! A lot of the crowd were giving me banter and when Colombia scored, I was bounced around like a football - it felt like I had crate of Stellas poured on my head!

"During penalties it got very tense and I was advised to leave or hold back on celebrations but emotions were high and that went out the window! I may live in Colombia but I'm English through and through!"

The video was filmed by Davis' pal Dylan Obajimi, an English teacher from southeast London who has been based in Cartagena for 18 months. The two met at the start of the year.

He told Newsflare: "The experience was lively! Matchday for Colombians is like a national holiday and the country is painted yellow. The tense pat was the penalties!"

Now, more than 200,000 people have reportedly signed a Spanish-language petition demanding the game be replayed because of refereeing mistakes.

But Davis and Obajimi are having none of that.

Says Davis: "I can't believe that's even being spoken about. I'm stopped on the streets and Colombians keep talking about the decisions but at the end of the day, that's football. And that's what makes it so interesting."
