My friends and I decided to go day camping at Ruedi Reservoir which is in Basalt, CO. When we arrived at 7am on the 4th of July there were dozens of sheriff's blocking a road going up into a road because at the point the fire was trying to be contained. We could only see a small amount of smoke at that time. Around noon we decided to drive into town to eat lunch at the small town and that's when we saw the smoke growing and at some point we could see small flames. The planes were flying over the fire trying to put it out. We could smell the trees burning and just a cloud of black smoke filled the air. When we left the campsite at 6pm, the fire was burning out of control. The flames were bursting over the mountains and it was very clear it was out of control.
