The pensioner was seen laying out the empty aluminium beer and fizzy drinks cans she had collected in the streets around Hanoi, Vietnam. Picking up old bottles and cans allows residents to earn a small amount of money when they are weighed in at recycling centres.

But rather than waste energy crushing them herself for recycling, the woman cleverly positioned them so that a passing 12-wheel truck would flatten them.

Amusing footage captured on Wednesday (July 4) evening shows how the woman's haul of litter was quickly crushed ready to be recycled.

Onlooker Charlie Wallace said: ''I saw this elderly recycling lady using passing trucks to crush empty cans.

''It's a small alley so vehicles have to travel very slowly down there. I think they're happy to help her out.''
