Vehicles drive along California freeway as fast-moving brush fire burns on both sides

A brush fire broke out in the evening of July 8 in Altamont, east of San Francisco, shutting down the east and westbound lanes of the Interstate 580.
This video shot by Sam Duckett and uploaded to Facebook shows thick smoke and flames on both sides of the freeway.
According to local media, passengers in their cars could feel the heat and hear the crackling of the fire from inside their vehicles. Much of the hillside had also turned black.
The westbound lanes were reopened at around 7 pm, about an hour after the fire was reported.
