Death toll from devastating southwest Japan floods climbs to 100

Media reports released on July 9 reported at least 100 people from the Japan floods that struck the country's southwest on Saturday.
Japan experienced its heaviest rainfall in decades over the weekend, resulting in devastating floods and landslides that destroyed thousands of homes and structures. Dozens are still missing.
This video, taken by a resident in the city of Hiroshima, shows the neighbourhood reduced to rubble with collapsed walls and a car completely overturned.
More than 50,000 members of the self-defence force, police officers, firefighters and coastguard personnel have been involved in rescue efforts, with soaring temperatures posing a new threat to those in the worst-affected areas with no electricity or water.
The rains are the worst weather-related disaster in Japan since two typhoons in August and September 2011 killed nearly 100 people.
