These squirrels decided to share body warmth to combat one of the coldest days of the year at Kruger National Park in South Africa.

The three rodents were spotted perched on a log in the safari park, where temperatures usually sit above 30 degrees Celsius.

The winter, however, had brought a frosty morning temperature of just two degrees Celsius.

The family of squirrels can also be seen grooming each other.

The video was filmed on July 8.

The coldest day of this year so far in the Kruger National Park was recorded on Sunday 8 July 2018. The temperature was a mere 2 degrees Celsius at 8am backed by an icy breeze blowing. For an environment averaging between 35 -45 degrees Celsius majority of the year, it was a real freezing experience for everyone and all the animals out in the bush. While braving a cold safari on this day, we suddenly came across the most adorable sight. Three cute squirrels holding onto each other to keep warm in the freezing cold. It was amazing to see how the wildlife reacted to the unusually low temperatures. Such caring and loving behaviour by the squirrels made for heart-warming viewing. The squirrels used this snuggle time for mutual grooming which is an important part in strengthening their family bonds. The video shows how much they do enjoy these grooming sessions with armpits, eyes, ears and the rest of the body thoroughly check for any irritating parasites. The squirrels would rotate and each one would caringly be groomed while they kept each other warm at the same time.
