Buy video

During the early hours of Monday morning the 9th of July 2018, we were treated to a sight that can only be described as a natural spectacle and an unbelievable event to witness. The video shows how hundreds of thousands of birds flock together to drink at the pools of a small river in the Kruger National Park. These birds are called red-billed queleas and are rated as the world's most abundant bird. The size of their colonies can range from three hundred thousand to over a million birds. The sight and sounds of this mass of birds congregating around the water was absolutely astounding. The sheers numbers in which the birds arrived at the river was staggering. All the vegetation along the river bank was literally covered by these birds. The video also captures the moments when these birds would amazingly take off as one unit in breath taking synchronized flight. All these queleas visited this river bank all at once and within fifteen minutes every bird had its share of water and every single one of them disappeared to go and feed for the day. This sighting was a short and overwhelming spectacle that had everyone in awe.
