Smart baby elephant goes down on its knees to reach the water

The life of a baby elephant is filled with daily struggles and challenges. Due to their small size in the first few years, baby elephants find it difficult to accomplish an array of daily tasks such as eating and drinking, which may seem simple and easy for adult elephants. During this period of time, baby elephants have to learn all the life skills necessary to survive. During a safari in Kruger National Park we witnessed just how amusing these young elephants can be when they need to be creative to overcome their challenges. This video shows how a baby elephant overcomes the difficulty of being too short to reach the water for a drink. The embankment of the watering hole was quite steep and the young elephant could barely reach down to the water with its trunk. To our amazement the baby elephant suddenly crouches down on its knees and easily reaches the water. This was quite a smart move by the youngster as most elephants rarely go down in this awkward and uncomfortable position. The sheer size of an adult elephant would just not allow for them to go down on their knees. This baby elephant on the other hand looked very comfortable on its knees and it was finally able to quench its thirst. Elephants are most likely the most intelligent land mammals on the planet and this little elephant showed how capable and smart they can be to adapt and overcome any challenge.
