Car swerves off big roundabout (Sheriffhall) almost causing collision

Buy video

I was driving home after teaching a driving lesson, and crossing the busy Sheriffhall roundabout. I teach my learners to follow the lane they are in, even if it will be the wrong exit as this is safer than swerving off. The driver of the car that does suddenly swerve off should have just followed their lane and they could have easily looped round to end up in the same place. In recent years the driving test has introduced 'independent driving' where learners follow signs or sat-nav, and one of the main points is so that they learn to stay calm if they do start going the wrong way to minimise dangerous swerves like in this video. This roundabout is now on driving test routes, and it is good that learners are taught and tested on how to deal with these more complex junctions compared with years gone by.
