Baby born in Indonesia with two faces in desperate need of surgery
This baby in Indonesia was born with two faces and two brains on just one head and his parents are now desperately trying to sperate the conjoined twins.
Gilang Andika, the two-month-old son of Ernilasari and Mustafa, from Batam, is the result of the failed separation of two twins in the womb.
During pregnancy, Ernilasari claimed she didn't feel any awkwardness and despite three ultrasounds, the doctors at Chamata Sahidiya Panbil Hospital did not pick up the abnormality.
"The doctor just said the baby's head is enlarged and he is in breech position," Ernilasari said.
Ernilasari and Mustafa want to seek treatment for Gilang, but they don’t have the money at the moment. Due to Gilang’s condition, doctors have told Ernilasari that it is unlikely he would live long.
Gilang has to receive food through a hose as he cannot breastfeed and also suffers from Hydrocephalus disease.
Shortly after his birth by cesarian section, a wound in Gilang’s head led the parents to bring him to Awal Bros Hospital in Batam.
Dr Nenden Ismawati, who looked after Gilang at Awal Bros says it is unlikely doctors will be able to perform surgery.
He said: “Indeed, we suggested [surgery] to one of the hospitals in Jakarta which has better equipment than Awal Bros Hospital, but it also does not mean it he can be operated on right away, because doctors in Jakarta are still discussing the case.”
The footage was filmed on July 13.
