A passenger captured the devastation of the wildfires in Greece from a plane on July 23.

In the video, a plane is approaching the airport in Athens. Large plumes of smoke can be seen rising in the sky as the fires rage on the ground below.

“The flames were right next to the houses and very close to Rafina coast,” the filmer said.

“The death toll from Greece’s deadliest wildfires in decades climbed to 74 Tuesday as rescue crews searched on land and sea for those who sought to escape the blazes that engulfed popular summer resort spots near Athens,” The Associated Press reported.

The video was taken during Sitia-Athens flight, on 23rd of July 2018, at 20:07. The plane was approaching El Venizelos airport and was flying inbetween smoke and at the same time the large Athens fire (Rafina, Mati) was taking place. The flames were right next to the houses and very close to Rafina coast.
