A fire in Idyllwild, east of Los Angeles, burned through thousands of acres on July 25, forcing evacuations and road closures.

The Cranston Fire was reported at around noon at a forest area near Highway 74. About 500 firefighters arrived at the scene to tackle the blaze as several homes went up in flames.

Two evacuation centers have been set up for the residents of the 600 homes threatened by the fire. Major roadways were closed and thousands of households lost power, local media reported.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed, but one man has been detained for questioning in connection with intentionally starting the fire.
