Man detonates bomb outside US embassy in Beijing

An explosion was reported outside the US embassy in Beijing at around 1 pm on July 26.

According to media, a 26-year-old man detonated a small home-made explosive in the embassy compound, injuring himself.

Police reported that the man's surname is Jiang and that he was from Tongliao city in China's Inner Mongolia.

Witnesses said they heard a loud explosion in the area, followed by screams. Chinese social media users posted pictures and videos showing smoke filling the intersection.

Besides the man, no other people were injured and the embassy property was not damaged.
