Taxi strikes continue across Spain after sector representatives failed to reach an agreement with government officials.

Taxi drivers in Barcelona began an indefinite strike on Saturday and were soon followed by drivers in Madrid, Valencia and other cities across the country.

The cause of the protests is a judge's decision that permitted ride-hailing companies like Uber and Cabify to operate in the city without additional authorization.

After four hours of meeting, the associations of taxi drivers have expressed to the Ministry of Development that the proposal of transfer of competences to the autonomous communities offered by the Government is not enough, but they want a guarantee that this transfer has to accept the model of urban license that was approved by the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, which is chaired by the mayor Ada Colau. Otherwise, they say, the problem would extend to 17 autonomous communities instead of being solved. Ramón Muñoz informs.
