This is the bizarre moment a jilted boyfriend was seen clinging to a car's windscreen to try to stop his girlfriend from breaking up with him.

The troubled man was wearing a helmet as he spread herself across the bonnet of the orange Ford Focus in Taichung City, Taiwan on July 21 at 3pm.

Onlookers said the car travelled for 300 metres before it eventually stopped and police arrived at the scene on Jiancheng Road.

Filmer Ye Shenren said: ''At first I thought that the car had been in an accident and hit the man but then I discovered it was a girlfriend driving who wouldn't stop for her boyfriend.''

According to local media reports, the man on the bonnet of the car was Mr Chen 47, and the female driver was his girlfriend Miss Shi, 40.

They were involved in an ''emotional entanglement'' and the man believed that he could persuade his lover to return - but she refused and drove away.

He is said to have gave chase on his moped and climbed onto the car, before being carried on the windscreen with his feet hanging off the side.

It was reported that police arrived on the scene several minutes later after the scene was filmed.

They stopped the vehicle 300 metres away and ''persuaded the couple to end the dispute''.
