A couple on holiday in South Africa got a little too close to comfort in August 2018 to some of the country's largest residents - wild African elephants.

The couple were sunbathing by the pool at a private camp in Kruger National Park when the group of bull elephants decided to stop by for a drink.

Another couple, who were also planning to catch some rays, got to the pool and couldn't believe their eyes when they saw the pair lying stock-still on their loungers with the three huge creatures just a few feet away.

They decided to film the encounter.

"We were absolutely amazed by what was happening," said the filmer.

"The elephants did not seem bothered by the presence of the people and casually continued to drink water out of the pool," he said.

"One of the most amusing sights we have seen in a long time," he added.

During a recent stay at a private camp in the Kruger National Park, we encountered one of the most amusing sights we have seen in a long time. The camp had a small pool in a courtyard area for guests to cool off during the heat of the day. After our morning safari and a hefty breakfast we decided to go and enjoy a sunbathing session at the pool. When we came around the corner we were stunned by what we saw. My wife seized the opportunity to film the whole experience. On the deck chairs were a couple sunbathing and literally meters away from them were three large bull elephants busy drinking out of the pool. We were absolutely amazed by what was happening. The video shows how the two guests at the pool did not move and amazingly remained calm during the whole unbelievably close encounter. The elephants did not seem bothered by the presence of the people and casually continued to drink water out of the pool. Elephant are extremely fond of pure clean water and will do anything to find it. Swimming pool water is normally maintained at perfect PH levels. Elephants can smell this clean water from far while the chlorine levels are too low to have any effect on an elephant besides cleaning the water for them to come and enjoy in such an amusing way.
