A 25-year-old labourer survived a fall through a platform gap at Thane station on Sunday morning despite being dragged by a train for over 50 m, thanks to an RPF constable who raised an alarm, gave chase and pulled him out without a scratch.
Brijesh Kumar, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, jumped off a moving Gorakhpur-LTT Superfast Express (12541) at the station at 8.06 am, but fell through the platform gap. An alert RPF constable, Arun Kumar, rushed to rescue him, but Brijesh was pulled along with the train.
Despite the odds being against him, Arun ran behind the train, while repeatedly asking passengers to pull the emergency chain. The train stopped over 50 m ahead, after which Arun and other commuters pulled Brijesh out. Sunil Udasi, chief public relations officer, Central Railway, said Arun will be rewarded for his presence of mind.
