Sheffield has awoken covered in smoke and with a strong smell of burning, thanks to grass fires more than 30 miles away.
The city has been blanketed in smog from the fire, which started in The Roaches in the Peak District.
Will Oliphant, who lives in Crookes, in Sheffield, said: “I actually smelled smoke during the night. I got up to check the house because I was afraid that something was on fire.
“But when I got up this morning the smell was a lot stronger, and when I got outside there was a haze of smoke everywhere as if one of the neighbours was having a bonfire.
“When I got to the end of the road I could see that it was blowing in from outside the city and on my way in to work I grabbed a few shots of this smog that was coating everything.”
He added: “The smell of smoke everywhere is unbelievably strong today. I can’t believe that it’s coming from so far away.”
