Thai cave diver has to be rescued himself after getting stranded in floods
Hapless Thai cave rescue hero Claus Rasmussen, 45, from Denmark, is seen sitting on the roof of his white pick-up truck after being washed away in a flood yesterday (Thu) afternoon.
The scuba diver - who was among the group that saved 12 schoolboys and their coach in Chiang Rai, Thailand, last month - took a wrong turn and was hit with a flash flood after a monsoon downpour in Thung Yai district, Nakhon Si Thammarat.
He had been giving diving lessons in the area before returning to the southern island of Phuket.
The young girl seen in the video, Jaruwan Sesuksai, 13, was one of the volunteer rescuers who helped to save the Dave and his pal from Singapore Seetoh Yiyu, 37, who had spent several hours stranded before help arrived.
Claus, who helped British divers during the cave rescue of the young football team, told officials that he had been giving a scuba diving teaching course in the area before heading home.
He said: ''We took a different route because of the rain and bypassed one flooded road. Then we were hit by the water. I'm thankful to all the people who saved us.''
Lieutenant Sutham Jimkwan from Thung Yai Police Station said more than 100 rescuers, soldiers and local residents were involved in rescuing the men.
