Firefighters worked to contain a blaze in the island of Evia, north of Athens, on August 12.

Local media reported that the fire began at around 3 pm, prompting the mass evacuation of Kontodespoti and Stavros village in central Evia, about 70 km (44 miles) from the capital of Greece. Regional Greek authorities also declared a state of emergency in the eastern and western parts of greater Athens as fires fanned by winds raged through pine forests and seaside towns.

This video, shared to Facebook by Marinos Thanasis, shows firefighters working on the fire.

The outbreak of this blaze comes after a deadly fire last month in Mati, Greece, which killed at least 70.
