Four men avoided falling off a dam’s crest after their boat’s motor failed at a reservoir in Uttarakhand, India, on August 14.

The men traveled to the reservoir of the dam to inspect fertilized fish eggs.

Their boat’s motor suffered a mechanical failure, and the men started rowing to try to get to shore.

But officials had opened a few outlet gates and the force of the discharging water started dragging the boat, and the men along with it, towards the dam’s crest.

The desperate men managed to climb onto the iron shutter of the gate just as their boat sank.

The officials of the dam lowered the gate to stop the water discharge, but not before the men spent a few minutes precariously perched over the water in full flow.

As the gate closed, the boat resurfaced and the men bailed out the water and rowed away to safety.

“We had opened the gate only partially as the reservoir was not full,” an official at the dam said. “If not, the boat would have plunged down from a height of 60 feet. They were very lucky indeed.”

This was the moment four men came close to falling off the outlet gate of a dam after their boat’s motor failed.

Fortunately, the men managed to climb on to the iron shutter, which was then lowered by officials, to save them.

The heart-stopping incident occurred at Baijul Dam in Uttarkhand, India, on August 14.

Four men employed by a fishing contractor had sailed to the reservoir of the dam in the Sitarganj district to inspect fish seeds.

Their boat’s motor suffered a mechanical failure and the men started rowing to get to the shore.

But as officials had opened a few outlet gates, the force of the discharging water started dragging the boat and the men along with it.

Terrifying visuals shot by onlookers show the boat drifting towards outlet gates from which water was furiously discharging.

The desperate men used their paddles to check the drift and managed to climb the iron shutter of the gate just as their boat sank.

As the gate closed, the boat surfaced and the men bailed out the water and rowed away to safety.
