This is the miraculous moment a woman rescued a baby dumped in a storm drain.

The rescuer, named only as Geeta, heard a crying sound from the drain and investigated, thinking it was a kitten or puppy.

But she pulled out a naked baby boy, who still had his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, lying between two pipes on August 15.

The baby, who had been abandoned, is now recovering in a government hospital, in Chennai, India.

Geeta said: "I saw the baby lying in between two small pipes inside a cemented drain.

"He was covered with dirt and insects."
