What a bummer! Desert Tree Frogs hiding in a toilet cistern - close view

The Desert Tree Frog (Litoria rubella) is a small tree frog native to northern and central Australia, southern New Guinea and Timor. Desert Tree Frogs inhabit a very large range of habitats – from the tropics, temperate areas and of course arid environments. Unlike most desert frogs, Litoria rubella does not burrow to avoid desiccation, instead seeking shelter under fallen wood, rocks and in humid places around human settlements including drain pipes and in this case toilet cisterns. There were eleven Desert Tree Frogs in this toilet cistern on Wooleen Station in the Murchison Region of Western Australia – on warmer days one runs the risk of having a frog jump onto a buttock while sitting on the loo!
