Panicked shoppers flee as powerful earthquake hits Trinidad and Tobago
Chaotic scenes were captured at a supermarket in Trinidad and Tobago as a powerful earthquake sent shockwaves through the Caribbean island.
The footage, captured on August 21, shows terrified shoppers rushing out of the supermarket for safety.
The filmer writes: ‘’While in the line waiting to cash accompanied by my mom and two siblings I suddenly felt the ground beneath me shaking.
''Confused, I asked my mom if it was an earthquake hoping it was just a heavy equipment moving around causing the vibrations in the floor beneath me.
''To our surprise, the ceilings above started to shake uncontrollably, although scared I quickly scrambled for my phone while other traumatised shoppers immediately began running and screaming out both the entrance and exits of the building.
''The quake got stronger and lasted longer than expected.
''I became concerned and hurried my family out of the building before anything can collapse onto us. It was truly the most terrifying two minutes of my life and the worst earthquake I’ve ever experienced.''
The 7.3 earthquake caused serious damage to buildings and roadways in the island.
No fatalities were reported.
