Orangutan mum helps baby cross rope line at Washington zoo

This is the touching moment an orangutan mother helped her baby crossing a rope line hung at a great height.

The footage, captured on August 23 at Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington, shows a baby orangutan coyly walking on a rope line followed by his mother.

After a moving a few inches the little one seems a bit doubtful about crossing the line on its own and decides to hitch a ride on his mum’s back.

The mother happily takes him to the other side of the rope.

The filmer writes: ''We saw how close he is to crossing the O-Line on his own.

''The Line allows the zoo's orangutans to cross from Great Ape House to Think Tank as they wish and Redd will be joining them very soon.

''For now, his mom Batang, is there to keep him safe high above the ground.''
